Hostage Freed!

This morning, in a daring raid on the dealership in Medford, Massachusetts, the Mustang, held hostage since June 23rd, was freed from its captivity. The damage to both rear quarter-panels was repaired, as were the front and rear brakes. 2 tires, the oil, and various filters were replaced, fluids replenished, and it's actually driveable again. But boy, am I not looking forward to the August credit card bill. Since the insurance company already paid out the first claim on this, they'll only reimburse me for the supplemental Collision work ($$$) and the $700-ish in rental car charges, and not for the Service work ($1000+). And with my luck, I'll have to pay the bill before the reimbursement check shows up (or before I can deposit it, anyhow).

And I, conversely, was just offered $650 by the City of San Francisco to scrap my car, on the grounds that it's so old (1979), it's a gross polluter.

(Nope, won't do it.)

I used to have a '79 Olds Cutlass Supreme. (Grandma's car, my senior year of high school. No, that year wasn't 1979.)

I wouldn't know; the rental was a 2004 Mercury Sable (they said it was silver but it was more beige than that). And I didn't try picking up guys in it; should I have?
